The charger (30) has an onboard network (20) connectable to an onboard network-sided rectifier with a power supply battery (21). Electrical energy of an external voltage source e.g. alternating current voltage source, is transferable to a traction battery (11) via a network-sided inverter, a transformer and a traction network-sided rectifier. The traction network-sided rectifier is formed as an inverter, where electrical energy of the traction battery is transferable to the supply battery via the traction network-sided rectifier, the transformer and the onboard rectifier. An independent claim is also included for a method for transmission of electrical energy in electric or hybrid vehicles.
