The method involves contacting emptied material wagon (12) by a loaded material wagon and displacing the emptied wagon such that the emptied wagon occupies a position at a defined assembly location. A dragging car (10) is decoupled from the loaded material wagon and driven for positioning of the emptied wagon. A permanent magnet (36), contact plate (38) and double-armed lever (40) are provided at the wagon such that the magnet, plate and lever hold the wagon, during contact of the wagon. The magnet, plate and lever are loosened, during docking of the dragging car at the emptied wagon. An independent claim is also included for a device for implementing the method for change of material wagon of a driverless transportation system in manufacturing equipment.
