The method involves producing a tangential acceleration signal by measuring tangential acceleration. A centrifugal acceleration signal is produced for determination of a sign by measuring centrifugal acceleration, where the centrifugal acceleration signal contains a portion periodically changed in accordance with rotational frequency of a wheel (1) and another portion proportional to the rotational frequency of the wheel. The sign is determined as a sign of changes of the latter portion of the centrifugal acceleration signal.
