The continuous casting plant for casting a metal rod such as blooms or billets, comprises a cold rod for initiating the casting process, where the cold rod comprises a cold rod head, a transition piece and a member chain. The transition piece is arranged between the cold rod head and the member chain. The transition piece and/or the member chain consist of limbs connected to each other. The members are pivotable relative to each other around a vertical transverse axis running to longitudinal axis of the cold rod. Guidance means are provided for guiding the cold rods. The continuous casting plant for casting a metal rod such as blooms or billets, comprises a cold rod for initiating the casting process, where the cold rod comprises a cold rod head, a transition piece and a member chain. The transition piece is arranged between the cold rod head and the member chain. The transition piece and/or the member chain consists of limbs connected to each other. The members are pivotable relative to each other around a vertical transverse axis running to longitudinal axis of the cold rod. Guidance means are provided for guiding the cold rods and comprise guidance rollers (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) and/or skids. The guidance rollers are arranged at the frame of transport straightening machine units (9, 10, 11, 12, 13), between which intermediate rollers (16) are arranged as further guidance means. The position of the skids and/or the rollers is hydraulically adjustable corresponding to the width of the blooms or billets to be cast transverse to transport direction. Means for the detection of the position of the cold rod are provided and comprise an optical fiber, a tachometer for determining the speed of the motor driving the cold rods, and a displacement sensor.
