The method involves attaching a permeable standard body (44) to a measuring chamber (14), and passing test fluid (12) e.g. inert gas, through the body. Instant, time-dependent pressure decline is introduced into the chamber, and the pressure of the test fluid is measured before and after passing though the body. Measured variable is calculated based on the pressure difference, volumetric speed, dynamic viscosity and density of the test fluid and based on permeability coefficients and density of the body, where the body is made from ceramic sinter or composite material or metallic foam. An independent claim is also included for a device for determining measured variable.
