The device (10) has a liquid container (12) comprising a drain device (16) for draining, and another liquid container (14) with a liquid volume detector (22) for detecting a filling volume of the latter liquid container. A switch (28) conducts a liquid flow into the liquid containers during respective switch positions. A control device (40) alternatively switches the switch, so that a measured variable of the liquid flow is determined by summing the filling volumes of the liquid containers. The control device is connected with another liquid volume detector (18). An independent claim is also included for a method for determination of a measured variable.
