The method involves pre-determining charging moment or assisting moment for discharge of energy storage in a control unit as a function of current actual-charging condition of the energy storage. A pre-determined assisting moment is provided to a combustion engine at required assisting moment, during electrical motor operation. A current operational parameter of the combustion engine or data that is derived from the current operational parameter of the combustion engine is considered, during determination of the charging moment and/or the assisting moment.
