The unit (1) has an axle drive (4) comprising an adjustable drive element staying in effective connection with a component (2) e.g. milling slide, to be adjusted, of a tool machine. A compensation unit (6) compensates weight of the component, and comprises a spring device that forms a structural unit with the drive. The drive and the spring device are arranged coaxial to each other in a common housing. The drive has a screw drive e.g. ball screw drive, and the drive element comprises a threaded spindle (10) or a spindle nut, and the compensation unit has a piston that limits a pressure space.
