The round shank chisel (1) has a cast steel body forming a chisel shank (3) and a chisel head (2), and a hard metal tip in an axial recess of the chisel head. A pin is formed on the hard metal tip in an axial manner. The chisel head is partially edge-zone hardened in a hardening depth in the range of 1 to 10 millimeters. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a round shank chisel.
