The cylinder has a piston (1) displaceable in a housing, and a stroke measuring system for detecting a piston stroke. The system includes an information sensor (9) placed in the piston, and a detection unit firmly arranged opposite to the housing. The sensor is attached to a carrier (3) that is inserted into a central opening (2) of the piston, and enclosed in the opening. The sensor is radially and axially fixed opposite to the piston by a plastic ring. A seal (12) is arranged between the carrier and the piston. The ring is centered at an inner periphery (11) of the opening.
