The method involves moving an abrasive layer (5) of a grinding device in relation to an end of an optical fiber (2). The optical fiber with an end is engaged in a loop recess (4) of the abrasive layer. A peripheral wall is formed by a loop recess, where the wall slopes towards a recess axis. The abrasive layer is guided along a circumferential path (13) around the end of the optical fiber, where the end of the optical fiber is arranged on the peripheral wall of the loop recess. An independent claim is also included for a device for grinding a microlens on an end of an optical fiber.
