The device i.e. turnable regulator (10), has an evaluation circuit coupled with a manually movable control element (11) e.g. slider. A shaft (12), an inner housing part (13) and an outer housing part (14) of the control element are formed such that movement of the control element causes movement noise. The evaluation circuit has a micro-electro-mechanical sensor (MEMS) microphone (16) for detecting the noise. A fixed friction surface (142) and a movable friction surface (132) are formed such that movement direction of the control element is detected based on the movement noise.
