The invention relates to a brake actuator for a bicycle. The brake actuator includes a loop adapted for mounting to a pedal drive shaft. The loop provides an interior adapted to receive the pedal drive shaft circumferentially. The brake actuator further comprises a lever element, which is mounted offset from a pivot bearing to the interior. The lever member has a loop guide for the loop, which is disposed within the loop and causes the bias of the loop, which depends on the lever angle position. By the dependent of the bias of the loop friction connection a return movement is transmitted from the pedal crankshaft to a brake force interface. The invention further relates to a pedal drive with a brake actuator according to the invention. In addition, the invention relates to a method which is designed according to the operation of the invention.
