Producing an active substance-containing microcapsules comprises: (a) combining an organic phase comprising at least one di- or polyfunctional epoxide (monomer-I), and hydrophobic active substances, with a water phase comprising water, and compounds (monomer-II) reacting with at least one of the di- or polyfunctional epoxides (monomer-I), in the presence of at least a surfactant; (b) carrying out a polymerization reaction, preferably polyaddition reaction between the monomers-I and -II, and (c) optionally separating the obtained active material containing microcapsules. Producing an active substance-containing microcapsules having an average particle diameter of greater than 1 mu m to 500 mu m by interfacial polymerization, comprises: (a) combining an organic phase comprising at least one di- or polyfunctional epoxide (monomer-I having at least two epoxy groups (oxirane rings)), and hydrophobic active substances, with a water phase comprising water, and compounds (monomer-II having reactive functional groups in the polymerization, preferably polyaddition) reacting with at least one of the di- or polyfunctional epoxides (monomer I), under polymerization reaction, preferably polyaddition, by mixing of the two phases in the presence of at least a surfactant to form an oil-in-water emulsion; (b) carrying out a polymerization reaction, preferably polyaddition reaction between the monomers-I and -II in the presence of the hydrophobic active substances to be encapsulated and surfactant in the emulsion, where the encapsulation of the active substance in the obtained microcapsules is performed by the polymerization reaction, preferably polyaddition, and (c) optionally separating the obtained active material containing microcapsules. An independent claim is included for an active substance-containing microcapsule, obtained by the above method.
