The device has an impact shaft (2) coaxially connected with a component (1) at its end, and a drive shaft (8) connected with a drive motor (3) and an unbalance exciter. The unbalance exciter is rotatably supported at another end of the impact shaft, and a housing (4) encloses the impact shaft. A clamping device is arranged at an outer side of housing top (4') for clamping the component against the housing top. The clamping device has clamping segments (6) circumferentially positioned around a through-flow opening (5) in the housing and radially movable with respect to the component. An independent claim is also included for a method for testing fatigue strength of a rotation symmetric component.
