The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of carboxylic acid - modified epoxides from native oils by the steps of: epoxidation of native oils to a degree of epoxidation of more than 1,5%, the separation of the epoxide phase and optionally washing of the epoxide phase and reaction of the separated epoxide phase with a small amount of dilute polycarboxylic acid to the carboxylic acid - modified epoxides. The thus produced epoxides can be used as coating materials, coating materials for jewelry coatings, for the production of anticorrosive coatings for wood, metal, stone or concrete, as a printing ink binders, for the hydrophobicization or be used as preservatives for foods.
