The device (I) has upper and lower gear wheels (16, 18) mounted in a housing (10). An oil sump (20) is arranged in a lower part of the housing, and the lower gear wheel is submerged in oil (O) in the oil sump, where oil spilling during operation of the device is interrupted by the lower gear wheel. Oil levels (L1) in the oil sump are controlled by oil level regulating units (100) by gear switch movements. The regulating units are arranged at switching elements (22), where the switching elements are moved by the gear switch movements and direct and/or collect the oil.
