The method involves disconnecting a voltage source (3, 4) from a coil (1), and switching a capacitor (7) parallel to the coil according to the disconnection of the voltage source. A switch (9), which is located parallel to the coil, is opened in series with a diode, in connection to parallel connection of the capacitor to the coil. Another switch (5), which forms a series arrangement with the capacitor, is switched parallel to the coil so that discharge of the coil into the capacitor is caused with an opening of a third switch (2) and a closing of the second switch. An independent claim is also included for a switch device with a coil.
