Demountable filter element (3) that is mountable in a filter housing (2), for filtering a liquid, preferably the oil of a hydraulic circuit of an internal combustion engine, comprises: a filter insert (4) for the flow of the liquid to be filtered; a cylindrical central pipe for supporting the filter insert; and a sieve fitted on the filter element, which closes an end side opening of the filter element, exhibiting a strainer element that is connected with the filter element in a peripherally sealed and preferably inseparable manner. An independent claim is also included for a filter arrangement (1) comprising a housing in which a filter element is arranged, and a bypass valve for circumventing the filter insert, when the flow of the liquid to be filtered through the filter insert is blocked, where the bypass valve is mounted on the housing, preferably on a housing cover, and the sieve is connected upstream.
