The arrangement has a switching unit opened or closed depending on predetermined conditions. Another switching unit is switched parallel to a series circuit from the former switching unit and a current limiting element i.e. resistor (12). The latter switching unit is switched between positive and negative terminals (11a, 11b) of a charge storage i.e. starter battery (11), by the resistor and a diode (16). The switching units are designed as MOSFETs (13, 15). Driver circuits (18, 19) are fixed to each switching unit, and are controlled by a common control unit (17). One of the driver circuits is designed as a pulse-width-modulated driver. An independent claim is also included for a method for limiting initial current for a starter motor.
