The system (1) has a master cylinder (4) connected to a brake pedal (2), and a high pressure accumulator (20) formed by a piston or springs for storing potential energy and increasing or creating brake pressure independent of an action of a driver on the brake pedal. A mechanical energy recuperating system (28) connects the brake pedal to the accumulator to recuperate the energy dissipated during reduction of the brake pressure following the release of the pedal to recharge the accumulator by the energy.
