The method involves providing a control device including a pin (30) with a control hole (32). Fluid i.e. air, is passed towards a housing (72) via the control hole. Leakage degree of the fluid is detected. Positioning of a snap ring (50) is determined based on the fluid leakage degree. The pin is installed relative to the housing of the snap ring before passing the fluid. The installation of the pin relative to a part (70) and the housing is tested. An independent claim is also included for a device for controlling positioning of a snap ring in a housing of a part, comprising a control hole.
