The mechanism has electromagnetic type selective coupling or uncoupling units (11) for coupling/uncoupling a gripping unit having a wheel (2) to/from a drive shaft with a steering column (3). Control units control integration/disintegration of the gripping unit and the shaft that permits authorization/prevention of utilization of the mechanism. The uncoupling units have an electromagnet (14) fixed to the shaft and a pole shoe (12) fixed to the gripping unit. The pole shoe is positioned concentrically with respect to a peripheral interior surface of the electromagnet. An independent claim is also included for a steering control assembly of a vehicle, comprising a secured control mechanism.
