The method involves estimating longitudinal and/or transversal acceleration of a motor vehicle from values of a sign of a sloping angle of a route, values of a deflection angle of wheels of the vehicle, values of efforts exerted on each wheel of the vehicle, and mass (M) of the vehicle. Aerodynamic force exerted on the vehicle is considered for estimation of longitudinal and/or transversal acceleration of the vehicle, where the values of the deflection angle of the wheels of the vehicle are estimated using a wheel deflection angle measuring unit (30). An independent claim is also included for a device for estimation of longitudinal or transversal acceleration of a motor vehicle moving on a slope and/or a slanting path.
