The device has a linear potentiometric sensor comprising a resistive track (P) formed by a body (13) of a plunger cylinder (10). A slider (14) connected to a piston (12) is in contact with the resistive track. A determination unit determines a position (X) of a rod (11) of the piston in the body of the cylinder based on a position of the slider on the track. A current generator (I) i.e. alternating current generator, is connected to the body of the cylinder through a transformer.
