The method involves washing gas stream (1) i.e. stream of oxy-combustion fumes, with strong oxidant i.e. hydrogen peroxide, in liquid phase to eliminate a portion of nitrogen oxide and a portion of sulfur oxide in a simultaneous manner, and purging aqueous solution that contains sulfuric acid and nitric acid. Washing of the gas stream is carried out in a gas or liquid contactor i.e. trimmed washing column, at temperature of 40-80 degree Celsius. An independent claim is also included for a device for eliminating nitrogen oxide and sulfur oxide from a gas stream, comprising a gas or liquid contactor.
