The mechanism has a support axle (50) pivotably mounted in a bearing (60) and supporting a windscreen wiper blade. The bearing has sliding elements e.g. fins (62), allowing sliding assembly of the bearing on support elements i.e. plates (71), integrated to a structure of a motor vehicle. Blocking units have projections (63) elastically engaged in orifices (72) formed on the support elements or the sliding elements for rigidly connecting the bearing to the support elements. The sliding elements are oriented to permit sliding of the bearing along a direction parallel to the support axle.
