The installation has a downstream station (12) situated at height smaller than an upstream station (10). An inclined ramp connects the upstream station with the downstream station, and is provided with a transport path and a counterweight path. A counterweight (18) rolls on the counterweight path. Traction cables (30A, 30B) connect a vehicle i.e. transport carriage (14), with the counterweight by passing through respective drive pulleys (32A, 32B). Two main motors drive corresponding drive pulleys. The drive pulleys are situated upstream of the upstream station.
