The method involves installing a cage (10) comprising a door (20) that permits entry and exit of an animal into and from the cage, on a catching place, and permitting entry and exit of the animal into and from the cage for predetermined time period. The door is partially blocked in position after the former predetermined time period, so as to only allow the entry of the animal and to prevent the exit of the animal for another predetermined time period. The animal retained in the cage is released after the latter predetermined time period. An independent claim is also included for a device for catching animals i.e. birds, comprising a cage.
