The method involves obtaining a telephone number associated with an extract personal account number, and sending a portion of a digitized image in a validation request message to a destination of a portable communication device of a user responding to the obtained telephone number. The validation request message comprising portion of the sent digitized image and response to the validation request message by confirmation of sending an item of a mail is received by the user. A user account of corresponding postage amount is debited, and the mail item is distributed.
