The method involves determining pollution information relative to effective quantity of polluting gas ejected in real time by a motor vehicle (2), by carrying out ignition and extinction of a combustion engine of the vehicle, using a measuring unit (8) and a calculating unit (11). The pollution information are transmitted to a remote database (3) using a cellular communication unit (13) i.e. cellular telephone, connected with the calculation unit. The quantity of ejected polluting gas is determined from the pollution information using another calculating unit (4). An independent claim is also included for a device for determining quantity of polluting gas rejected on a given path by a combustion engine of a motor vehicle, comprising a measuring unit.
