The device has a support (6) carrying a horizontal plate (7). The support is fixed at proximity of a robot such that suction cups (4) of a gripper (3) are in contact with an upper surface of the plate. The upper surface of the plate comprises a circle-shaped mark, where position of the mark corresponds to a predetermined correct position of one of the suction cups. The plate is fixed on a rod (9) that slides vertically with respect to the support against action of a return spring (10). A radius of the mark corresponds to that of the suction cup. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling a gripper.
