The method involves generating regional road map units that display road connection within all areas, and allocating a pair of connection data to a pair of connection routes and paired connection routes to provide the map units for each area with connection information, where the information shows a correlation between the connection routes and the connection data. Far field-map data that shows road connection between adjacent areas are generated. The map units are provided with connection information and position information by storage of the map units in a storage medium.
