A ventilator unit includes both internal and external flaps 5, 6 which are opened and closed by means of a low voltage actuator/s and linkage system. The ventilator is activated by natural gas and carbon monoxide sensors 1, 2 which are fitted to the printed circuit board 3, mounted behind the front panel 4. Also upon activation, an alarm 9 sounds and LED light 10 and/or 11 will flash according to which gas has been detected. A rechargeable battery pack 17 powers all electrical aspects of the ventilator, and is charged by one or more solar panels 18 fitted to the external flap 6. The front panel features control buttons for reset 12 and test 13 and LED lights to indicate fault 14, battery condition 15 and system on 16.
