Slate Retainer and Method of Replacing Broken Slates

The method comprises removing a slate so that the fixing baton of two underlying slates is visible and securing a first portion 210 of a slate retainer 200 to the baton. Once attached, a replacement slate is slid along the underlying slates into position. This is made possible by causing a second portion 220 of the slate retainer to resiliently flex between the two underlying slates when the replacement slate is slid into position. Once the replacement slate is in position, the second portion 220 can flex back in order to retain the replacement slate in position relative to the baton using a hook 226. The single-piece slate retainer includes a first portion 210 that is securable to a baton, a second portion 220 for holding a slate in position. The first and second portions are separated by a middle portion 230, which is resilient so that, in use, the second portion is flexible between two underlying slates.
