In a computer network entities (28) report resource availability to a central resource manager (32) that is responsible for allocation work or tasks (34) to the entities. In the particular embodiment of the invention the report can deliberately misrepresent the availability of the resource in order to influence the allocation of tasks. The misrepresentation may be achieved by deliberately adapting a value in the report. This may be done by representing the actual resource as an artificial resource. The report may include an energy efficiency value as an artificial resource or be a software licence. One advantage offered by the method is to allow managed entities to obtain work in order to run at an optimal capacity with regards to energy efficiency.
