An apparatus and method provide redirection of clients to streaming servers. The apparatus stores and associates streaming server identifiers with streaming server loads. The apparatus selects a streaming server identifier from among the streaming server identifiers based on the streaming server loads, in response to receiving from the client request for content. Load balancing between servers is performed by weighting of the connection loads and the processing loads of the servers. The apparatus sends to the client a reply including the selected streaming server identifier.
