A kitchen countertop, preferably of elongate plank form, is manufactured from a plurality of plywood strips 2 arranged side-by-side with their cut-edges facing upwards [see Fig. 1], and laid in a transverse direction over an underlying support panel 3A, 3B to which they are affixed. The transverse plywood elements allow the joining of two or more countertop sections in a seamless fashion [as shown in Figs. 6, 6A]. The worktop may be produced in linear plank, circular, or semi-circular form [see Figs. 10 and 11].
