FIBER-REINFORCED COMPLEX USING SUGAR CANE BAGASSE FIBERS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fiber reinforced composite body using sugar-cane bagasse fiber sheet and a method for producing the same.;SOLUTION: A bagasse sheet is inserted between glass mats to increase the strength and exhibit a function. After mixed with unsaturated polyester using a fibrous bagasse, it is loaded into a mold and then is pressed and heated by a heating press machine to produce the bagasse sheet. In this case, the fiber length and bagasse content of the sheet are varied. The molding including the bagasse sheet is light from comparison in the density with a molding which is held at pressure of 10 MPa and a heating temperature of 150°C for 5 minutes and then cooled. This is caused by a honeycomb structure that many cavities are formed in the bagasse fiber. When comparing specific bending strength of the moldings, the molding with the bagasse sheet (BS) shows an increase in strength of about 30% as compared with that with no bagasse sheet and the bagasse sheet effectively works to suppress development of cracks.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
