PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal compound having general physical properties necessary to the compound, low viscosity, proper optical anisotropy, proper anisotropy of permittivity, and excellent compatibility with other liquid crystal compounds; a liquid crystal composition having a wide temperature range of nematic phase, low viscosity, proper optical anisotropy, and a low threshold voltage; and a liquid crystal display device containing the composition.SOLUTION: The compound is represented by formula (1), wherein Rand Rare each, for example, 1C-10C alkyl; T, Tand Tare each independently tetrahydropyran-2,5-diyl or tetrahydropyran-3,6-diyl; Aand Aare each 1,4-cyclohexylene or 1,4-phenylene; Z, Z, Zand Zare each a single bond or 1-4C alkylene; n and i are each 0 or 1; and j, k and m are each 0, 1 or 2.
