PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material having a specific surface area whose surface area stability is increased.SOLUTION: The material includes each rare-earth oxide selected from among zirconium, cerium and lanthanum and yttrium, gadolinium and samarium, each oxide having a specific surface area of at least 40 m/g and at least 15 m/g after calcination for 4 hours at 1,000°C and 10 hours at 1,150°C. Moreover, after the calcination of 10 hours at 1,200°C, the surface area of at least 7 m/g is possessed.
