PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst composition which is useful for producing biodiesel fuel (BDF) from raw material fats and oils, a method for producing the catalyst composition, a method for producing the BDF using the catalyst composition, and an apparatus for producing the BDF which is suitable for the practice of the manufacturing method.SOLUTION: In the catalyst composition, calcium oxide powder which has surfaces having particle sizes not exceeding 100 m and turned to be in an active oxide state exists in a solvent selected from the group consisting of methanol, vegetable oil, and biodiesel fuel, as a solid basic catalyst for producing the biodiesel fuel. The catalyst composition can be produced by using calcined limestone having particle sizes of at least 0.5 mm, for example, inexpensive calcined limestone stone mass-produced by a lime product factory as a raw material and carrying out mechanical grinding in the solvent.
