PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst that has sufficient performance for producing a propylene-ethylene block copolymer having excellent product quality, high MFR, low CXS component and a high ethylene content in high productivity, and a method for producing a propylene-ethylene block copolymer having improved mechanical properties such as rigidity, heat resistance.;SOLUTION: The polymerization catalyst for producing the propylene-ethylene block copolymer by sequentially polymerizing a propylene polymer component (a) with an ethylene-propylene random copolymer component (b) comprises: a solid catalyst component (A) obtained by contacting a solid component (A1) containing titanium, magnesium and a halogen as essential components with an aluminum halide compound (A2) represented by the general formula: AlX3 (wherein X is a halogen); and an organoaluminum compound (B).
