PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stable hydrogen fermentation technique which does not need a strict culture condition like a clostridium group bacteria, and is not greatly influenced by various germs, such as lactobacillus.SOLUTION: The hydrogen fermentation method is characterized in that a Megasphaera group bacteria is added to a substrate, and hydrogen fermentation is carried out under an anaerobic condition. The hydrogen fermentation system includes: a fermentation tank which can maintain an anaerobic state in fermentation; a substrate injection part for injecting a substrate Megasphaera group bacteria into the fermentation tank; a stirring part for agitating the substrate in the fermentation tank; a pH controller for maintaining a pH of the substrate in fermentation uniformly; a gas collecting section for collecting hydrogen formed by fermentation; and a substrate collecting section for collecting the substrate after fermentation.
