PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid sustained-release suspension dosage form comprising an ionized form of water-soluble drugs.;SOLUTION: There is provided a liquid-form controlled-release drug composition comprising a dispersed phase comprising an ion-exchange matrix drug complex comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable ion-exchange matrix and a water-soluble electrolytic drug associated with the ion-exchange matrix. The surface charge of the ion-exchange matrix is opposite to that of the electrolytic drug. The dispersed phase further comprises a non-electrolytic soluble component having a low molecular weight, a diffusion controlling membrane and a dispersion medium substantially free of diffusible counter ions, and further comprises an excipient capable of associating with water and impeding water activity.
