PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for measuring a state change of material and a method of measuring a state change of material, to measure a state of displacement or a state of elongation of a work within a forming die when press working is underway.SOLUTION: The system for measuring a state change of material 10 includes: an imaging device 40 configured so as, when press working of a work W is being implemented using a forming die 20, to take an image of a surface of a work W in a given site within the relevant forming die 20; and a measuring computer 42 to calculate an amount of displacement of the work W in the given site, based on the image of the surface taken by the imaging device 40. The process of imaging the surface of the work W using this imaging device 40 permits measurement of a state of displacement or a state of elongation of the work W within the forming die 20 without requiring any break of the press working in mid-course.
