PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dispersant which improves the dispersibility of carbon fibers in a resin composition when used in a technique of mixing a resin material with carbon fibers and to provide a technique of preparing a composite material and a coating film by using the dispersant. PSOLUTION: An electroconductive composite material or an electroconductive coating material in each of which carbon fibers are uniformly dispersed and fibrillated is prepared by adding carbon fibers and a carbon fiber dispersant represented by formula (1) to a resin solution and subjecting the resulting mixture to dispersion treatment.
