PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of forming, on a surface of a base material, a cermet coating excelling in plasma erosion resistance, and a cermet coating cover member obtained by the method.;SOLUTION: The method is used for immersing a non-conductive ceramic thermal spray coating formed on a surface of a conductive base material in an electronickeling liquid, forming a cermet coating filled with plating deposition nickel by filling the plating deposition nickel in pores of the ceramic thermal spray coating by performing an electronickeling treatment, and then re-melting the coating surface to produce a dense surface layer by performing a high-energy irradiation treatment.
