PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing a 4-vinyl catechol polymerization compound, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof having excellent anticancer activity and lipase inhibitory activity, a lipase inhibitor, an anti-obesity agent, skin disease therapeutic agent and anticancer agent containing the 4-vinyl catechol polymerization compound, or the pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and a food, a pharmaceutical agent or a cosmetic product containing the 4-vinyl catechol polymerization compound, or the pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.;SOLUTION: The method for producing a 4-vinyl catechol polymerization compound represented by the formula (1), or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof comprises heating caffeic acid in the presence of a metal salt.
