PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine states of the atmosphere etc., by receiving radiation and scattered signals from ultrafine particles etc.SOLUTION: An electromagnetic wave which is a sub-millimeter wave or above is received, a half-mirror 2 divides the received wave into a transmitted wave and a reflected wave traveling down at 90°, and the transmitted wave is polarized by 90° through a Faraday rotation plate 5. Further, a reference wave for correction is made incident on the half-mirror 2 from above. The sub-millimeter wave which is separated into two thereafter is converted to an intermediate frequency by a corner cube harmonic mixer 6. Then cross polarization and measurement of intensity are carried out to determine states of radiation and scattering from ultrafine particles etc.
